Breast Implant Size; Help from Crisalix
Breast Implant Size, Patients who come to the office requesting a breast augmentation often are unaware of what breast implant size they want. This is often a challenging decision for patients who are unsure of the appropriate size breast implant. At Contour Plastic Surgery and MedSpa in Downers Grove, IL, we have implemented Crisalix 3D imaging software into the process of deciding on the sizing of breast implants for patients. We start the breast augmentation consultation with discussing with the patient what their goals are. Breast implants are sized in ccs (cubic centimeters) which is measurement used for the volume of the breast implant. Patients will often state their goals in terms of cup size which can be variable depending where the patient does her bra shopping. Cubic centimeters (ccs) allow for exact measurements of the volume needed to help the patient achieve their aesthetic goals.
Breast Implant Size; Measurements Matter
After discussing the patient’s goals, the patient’s chest will be examined and measurements will be taken. The most important measurement in terms of sizing the breast implants will be the breast width. This is the horizontal width of the patient’s breast on each side. For most patients, the two sides are equal in breast width but can be different. The breast width will determine the upper limit of the width of the breast implant that can be placed. To get a natural, aesthetically pleasing result, the width of the breast implant needs to match the width of the patient’s chest. Choosing an implant that is too wide for the patient’s chest can lead to too much ‘side boob’ and an unnatural aesthetic result. Most patients are seeking a natural result so chest measurements are a crucial variable in choosing the appropriate size implants.
Breast Implant Size; The decision is yours
To assist the patient with choosing the appropriate size breast implant, we at Contour Plastic Surgery and MedSpa in Downers Grove, IL use Crisalix 3D Imaging software to simulate the patient’s result with different size breast implants. See the link to learn more about Crisalix. This involves taking pictures of the patient’s chest (no face) and importing those pictures into the 3D imaging software. We can then simulate different size implants on the patient’s body to help them determine their aesthetic goals. We can also simulate a breast lift, if needed, based on the patient’s measurements. The software can also be used to measure breast size asymmetry, or different size breasts. The difference can be quantified into ccs allowing for recommendations of different size breast implants for each breast to correct the size asymmetry. Patients can compare different size and shape breast implants to decide on which implants they prefer. Crisalix 3D Imaging Software also allows the patient to access the simulations at home on their own iPAD. This allows the patient to review their simulations in the comfort of their own home, and share the images with their significant others to assist them in their decision-making process. Crisalix 3D imaging software also has the capability to look at the implants in a variety of clothing simulations including swimwear and dresses. Patients can also move the simulations to see the images from different vantage points. This is a significant improvement from the days when patients would do sizing in the office with a bra and different size implants placed into the bra. All in all, the addition of Crisalix 3D Imaging software to the breast implant decision-making process is a huge advantage for patients seeking breast augmentation.
